The 2015 Karnataka State film awards have thrown in some surprise, raising of eye brows and made a room for controversy too. A book on Dr Rajakumar – Samagra Charitre by Doddahullur Rukkoji was neglected surprises among all. There is a category for award in this section. Probably the national award ones would automatically get award at state level was the observation.

The two well made films ‘Vidaaya’ and ‘Naanu Avanalla Avalu’ were neglected while super star Upendra ‘Uppi 2’ new kind of cinema was not adjudged for anyone of the categories is surprising.

Superseding the national award actor Sanchari Vijay film in the list of films in fray the award committee headed by Naganna picked Vijaya Raghavendra for ‘Shivayogi Puttayyajja’ for best actor. Despite of a few award winning actresses the selection of Malashri for ‘Ganga’ Kannada film is surprising. In the presence of Lakshmi Gopalaswamy performance in ‘Vidaaya’, the actress of ‘Thithi’ Pooja for best supporting actress shows the lack of judgment among the committee members.

The internationally acclaimed, national best film ‘Thithi’ bagged first best film for Raam Reddy in his debut while the same film dialogue writer Eere Gowda gets another award. Shivarudraiah directed film ‘Maarikondavaru’ based on Devanooru Mahadeva novel bagged second best while the expected award for ‘Mythri’ in the third best film category.

Shivayogi Puttayajja film gets the social concern movie, best entertainer goes to Krishna Leela (it could have gone to First Rank Raju), best children film to Mane Modala Paatashale, first time director award for Anoop Bhandari to Rangi Taranga is not a surprise, Regional best is Talang Neer a Kodava film.

It is a well deserved best supporting award for Ramesh Bhat for Mana Manthana, veteran journalist of Indian Express group Sarjoo Katkar July 22, 1947 gets story, screenplay award for Shashank and Raghu Kovi for Krishna Leela, cameraman is Ananth Arasu for Last Bus, Sridhar Sambram gets state award first time like many other for his Krishna Leela music, Srujith Nayak for editing to Chandikori, child actor is Likith Sharma for Ashtavakra, best female child is Mevish of Savi Nilaya, art direction award goes to Avinash Narasimharaju for Last Bus, in the singing department Santosh Venki and Shamitha Malnad gets award for Pritiyalli Sahaja and Bekku songs, Dr V Nagendra Prasad gets award for his song in Muddu Manase.

Special jury award goes to Jupiter animation for ‘Shivalinga’.

BHAGWAN HEADS FOR 3 AWARDS

Like the previous years the Karnataka state award for 2015 did not announce the SR Puttanna Kanagal, Dr Rajakumar and Lifetime achievement award given in name of Dr Vishnuvardhana.

Instead of it a separate committee in the leadership of SK Bhagwan was set up to select the right names. SK Bhagwan selection would be considered for three prestigious awards say information minister Roshan Baig.
